How Do Mosquito Misting Systems Work?

A simple explanation of the components and the timed misting cycle that keeps your yard protected automatically.

A mosquito misting system sounds high-tech, but the concept is simple. Here's exactly how it keeps your yard mosquito-free — automatically.

Reservoir PUMP + Timer Nozzles mist the yard perimeter Automatic misting at dawn & dusk — when mosquitoes are most active
How an automated mosquito misting system works: a timed pump pushes botanical solution from the reservoir through hidden tubing to perimeter nozzles.

The Core Components

  • Reservoir — a drum or tank that holds the botanical/pyrethrin solution.
  • Pump & timer — pressurizes the solution and controls when the system runs.
  • Tubing — thin polyethylene line routed discreetly along fences, eaves, and landscaping.
  • Nozzles — spaced every 8–10 feet around the perimeter, releasing a fine mist.

How a Misting Cycle Works

At scheduled times — usually dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active — the timer triggers the pump. Solution travels through the tubing to every nozzle, which release a fine mist for 30–60 seconds. The mist settles over the treated zone, killing mosquitoes on contact and leaving a short-lived residual. Within about 30 minutes the mist has dried and the area is safe for kids and pets.

Why It Works Better Than Sprays

Because it runs every single day, there are no gaps in protection — unlike a barrier spray that wears off between visits. You can also trigger an extra cycle manually before a cookout or party using a remote or wall switch.

Installation and Upkeep

A professional installation takes about a day. After that, the only upkeep is periodic refills and nozzle checks, which we handle on a schedule. Request a free estimate to see what a system would look like for your property.
